SEO gets websites to rank higher
SEO, which stands for “search engine optimization”, is the process of getting traffic from free / organic search results to a website.

Search engine optimization aims to increase the amount of visitors to a website by obtaining a ranking high in the search results page of a search engine (SERP) -- including Google, Bing, Yahoo and other search engines.

SEO incorporates search engine friendly elements into a website. Search engine optimization is broken down into two basic areas: on-page, and off-page optimization. On-page optimization refers to customizations on web site, such as HTML code, header tags, SEO friendly content, and images. Off-page optimization involves getting relevant, targeted ‘natural’ backlinks from other websites.

There are two major types of Search Engine Optimizations: White Hat and Black Hat. In crude terms, white hat is the ‘good’ kind, while the black hat, the ‘not so good’ kind.

Search engine optimisation is the art of getting a website to work better with search engines like Google (and Bing & Yahoo), and to look for ranking opportunities through on-page and off-page optimization opportunities.
